Your account

One password protects your account and signs your records. Keep it to yourself: we cannot read it, and we cannot sign anything on your behalf. You are responsible for records you sign and for items you register.

Records and items

Records are signed by the party that issued them. Life Inc does not vouch for the truth of a record's contents; it vouches that the record was signed by the party shown and has not been altered. Registering or transferring an item is your statement about it, signed with your key.

The stolen register is a record and a public serial check, not a police report. Report a theft only about an item you hold, and clear it when the item is found. We may remove a report that is shown to be false.

Names

Names are for people and businesses that use them. During beta, names are free; the fees shown in the app apply once payment collection is switched on, and we will say so before charging anyone. We may ask for evidence of genuine use, and we may decline or withdraw a name that impersonates someone.

The directory

Directory pages are public. A business may claim the page for what it makes or sells. Anything added to a directory page is published; add only what you have the right to publish, and nothing that identifies a person.

Businesses using the API

A business that connects to the Life Inc API is responsible for the records it issues, for keeping its API keys and business password confidential, and for having a lawful basis to issue records to the customers it names.

What Life Inc promises

We keep records available and verifiable. We do not forge or silently alter records. We honour lawful orders through signed override records that leave history readable. We tell you plainly that we can read stored records.

Availability

The app, the directory, the API and the business kits are provided as they are during this launch period. We aim for continuous availability but do not yet offer a service level agreement. You can download everything we hold about you from Settings at any time.

Liability

To the extent permitted by Australian law, including the Australian Consumer Law, our liability for any claim relating to the app, the directory or the API is limited to re-supplying the service. Nothing in these terms excludes rights that cannot be excluded by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Disputes are subject to the courts of that state.
